Sound and Silence

It could be a post about the music of Simon and Garfunkel.

Silence, in truth and scientifically speaking, should only exist in absolute form in outer space. The very concept is, in itself, challenging: the existence of an absence.

We overuse a single immediate sense — vision — relegating all the others.

Sound, however, we give a completely different kind of importance. But do we really listen? Sounds are one of the foundations of our evolution. Through them, we developed abilities that united us and shaped us, creating music, stories, communicating.

We do not see the two as opposing concepts, nor that one cancels out the other. We believe they have a yin-yang relationship.

On our journeys, we develop actions using both as a means to reach states of well-being and connection.

Silence — our silence — helps us realise our own existence… by listening.

When we travel, we rush to capture in a photo the sunset over a mirror-like sea. That Instagrammable landscape. But how often have we recorded the sound of our travels? In that small village on a sunny afternoon, where the bell marked the passing hours. Or in a field of flowers, the flutter of a bee’s wings…

How often do we listen to ourselves breathe?

Discover how we use sound in our journeys.
